Please choose the publication (e.g. The Age) from the dropdown menu and enter the date (choose both start and end date for your search). Scroll back up and hit Search.

Then choose the Front pages tab at the top of the search results.

Please note, Framed Pages, Photos and Prints are only available for Australian delivery addresses.

Q: I want to buy an image I saw in the newspaper, but I can't find it on your website.

A: Please contact us on 1300 136 466 or syndication@fairfaxmedia.com.au and we will search for you. Please have the following information ready:

    • * Title of newspaper/magazine?
    • * Date of publication and page number
    • * Photographer name

A: No. Please choose your photo carefully as it will be custom printed for you. Once it has been printed a refund cannot be issued if you simply change your mind.

Q: Why does my photo have a border on the top/bottom/sides?

A: Please note that the print sizes offered are the standard photographic paper sizes (6x8", 8x10" etc). Image files will be scaled proportionally to fit these standard print sizes and in some cases, a white border may appear, because the original image is not to these exact dimensions.

    FAQs - FrontPages

Q: What type of paper is my front page printed on?

A: Your front page will be printed on KODAK PROFESSIONAL ENDURA photographic paper. In the typical home display environment, this paper will last for over 100 years before noticeable changes occur. You will receive a KODAK certificate verifying this with your order.

Q: What years are available online?

A: 1st January 1945 to 31st December 1989. Also, all dates from 1st January 2001 to the present. Only a small number of dates from 1990 - 2000 are available online. Dates prior to 1945 are not available.

Q: My front page is in black and white?

A: Because microfilm is only available in black and white a colour version cannot be offered before 2001. Dates after 2001 have been stored in PDF format and will be supplied in colour. If your preview is in black and white your print will be in black and white.

Q: What if I would like to use an excerpt or story from a front page for a commercial purpose (e.g. in a book, brochure, website, poster, film etc.)?

A: The Front Pages you buy online are strictly for personal use and subject to strict copyright regulations. If you would like to use a front page or a story from a Fairfax publication for a commercial purpose you must contact Fairfax Syndication for permission and pricing. (See Contact Us page).

Q: There is a slight curvature on my front page?

A: The early newspapers have been microfilmed and recently digitised from bound volumes of the newspaper. Like any thick book, the bound volumes cannot be fully opened perfectly flat when they are being photographed. In some cases, this results in unavoidable curvature near the margins of the page. The image you see online is the same as the one that will be printed for you. Please choose carefully as there is nothing that can be done to rectify any imperfections as these images are taken for our original records.

Q: Some of the text is not clear on my front page?

A: Please choose carefully as there is nothing that can be done to rectify any imperfections as these images are taken for our original records. The image you see online is the same as the one that will be printed for you.

Q: I can see "Fairfax Copyright" across the online preview of my front page. Will this be on the print of my front page?

A: No. This is an online "watermark" aimed at protecting our copyright against illegal copying.

Q: I have changed my mind and longer want my front page?

A: Please choose your front page carefully as it will be custom printed for you. Once it has been printed a refund cannot be issued if you simply change your mind.

    Q. Can I buy a back copy of the paper from you?

    A. For space reasons, we simply cannot keep back copies of all of our papers for our readers to purchase. You can purchase the last two weeks of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Australian Financial Review (up to two weeks old) from the World Newsagency, Shop 15, Pavilion Plaza, 580 George Street, Sydney, 2000 or phone (02) 9261 8310.

You are also able to order back-editions of newspapers older than the previous two weeks from Paper World on 1800 811 755 or visit www.paperworld.com.au.

Alternatively, State Libraries and larger regional libraries have archives of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age on microfilm which are readily available and easily searchable.

    Q. Can I come in and look at the archives myself?

    A. No. This is not a service available to the general public

    Q. There was an article in the paper; can I get a PDF of that article from you?

    A. Articles are available for licensing for both commercial and consumer use, starting at $98

    Q. I was in a video that is on one of your websites. Can you send a copy of the video from you?

    A. Video content is available for licensing, if it is Nine Copyright, starting at $350 + GST each
